In the noisy world of Public relations, visual storytelling is the silence that speaks the loudest. Visual storytelling is very versatile and can be used in many ways and throughout many professions. In this article we will be discussing visual storytelling and how it affects communication/public relations.

What is Visual Storytelling?

Visual story telling is the art of using images to tell a story. Visual storytelling uses images, infographics, and other visual media to convey a message or relay information. Visual storytelling combines storytelling and persuasion with hopes to inform and connect with an audience more easily.Visual storytelling is a method utilized in many fields including but not limited to public relations, marketing, and education.

It must be known that storytelling is NOT a substitution for texts. Instead , the main purpose is to connect with your audience and persuade them to engage more frequently. Although there are many forms of visual storytelling, one of the most popular forms of visual storytelling is through infographics. Infographics are use very often because they are normally visually appealing and break down complex information very well.

How is Visual Storytelling Used?

Visual storytelling is used in public relations in various methods. It is used to help build brand awareness, in Press releases, during crisis Communication, promoting events , etc. Frequently, it is used to make any complex data/ information more compelling and more feasibly understandable.

Another way that Visual storytelling is heavily utilized is through social media campaigns. Many companies showcase their products and services by posting images, videos, graphics, and any other forms of visual content. Organizations do this with hopes to connect with their audience build a brand identity.

Overall, visual storytelling is one of the most effective ways to communicate throughout public relations and many other fields. Without visual storytelling organizations are unable to use any image-based social media platforms such as instagram or TikTok. Therefore companies will be reducing online engagement due to their weak online presence.
